International Student Application
International students are a growing population at Capital University and we welcome you to apply online now. We accept both first-year and transfer international students and offer an ESL program. You can read more about the requirements for each program below.
How to Apply
We encourage you to plan ahead and review our scholarship opportunities. Be sure to submit your application or complete the Common Application. and all the required admission materials early. If you apply past the deadlines, we cannot guarantee that your application will be processed in time for the next semester start date. Once we have received all the required documents, you will receive an acknowledgment of the application by e-mail. Please allow two to three weeks for your application and credentials to be processed.

** Please note: all documents submitted for admission consideration become university property and will not be returned (regardless of the admission decision).
Options for International Students
International students applying for a graduate program should review the list of programs applications and submit the materials required by that program.
If you are applying for any graduate program, Adult and Continuing Education Program, or the Nursing Accelerated Program, you may also need to include:
- An Affidavit of Support (PDF) if you are using another person’s bank statements to get an I-20
- The International Transfer Form (PDF) if you are transferring from another school in the U.S.
ESL Application Deadlines (for students applying from outside the United States)
- Fall Semester deadline: Apply before June 1
- Spring Semester deadline: Apply before October 1
- Summer Semester deadline: Apply before March 1
To apply to our ESL Program, follow the directions on the application form. A completed ESL application includes:
- Submit your online application.
- Pay the $25 nonrefundable application fee online (by credit card only)
- Official records/transcripts from all high school and university study
- For F-1 visa students, proof of funds to study in the form of current bank statements or an Affidavit of Support (PDF)
- Photocopy of your passport identification page
Note to ESL transfer students:
In addition to the standard application materials required above, students transferring to Capital University from another U.S. institution must work with an international student advisor to complete the International Transfer Form. Also, if the student is transferring from an ESL program in the United States, he or she must submit the latest grade report from the ESL program in addition to the high school and university transcripts. If you are currently in the U.S, we also require you to attach a copy of the front and back of the I-94 form, visa pages, and other immigration documents (form I-20 or DS-2019, etc.).
For students starting classes in or after January 2016, there is a $25 nonrefundable application fee for ESL program; in addition, Capital University uses University Express Mail Services (eshipglobal) to ship all documents via express mail. To apply as an international student to one of Capital’s undergraduate programs, please submit materials before April 15 for fall semester or October 15 for spring semester. Certain programs (e.g., nursing, etc.) may have earlier admission deadlines. Please check with the appropriate department to learn more about specific deadline.
A completed undergraduate application includes:
- Your online application, or complete the Common Application.
- Official external examination results
- Official high school transcripts (Please submit original or certified copies of the records in the original language and of English translations of the records. Photocopies or facsimiles will not be accepted.)
- Capital requires all applicants to complete the following college prep course work at high school level to be considered:
- 3 math classes
- 3 science classes
- 3 social studies classes
- 2 English Classes - Official post-secondary education record. If you are transferring to Capital University from a university in the United States, you will need to submit your official college record/transcript in a sealed envelope. If you have taken college or university classes in another country, you will need to provide an official college record to our institution. You must also supply an official transcript(s) for the work to World Educations Services (WES). WES will provide a course to course evaluation of how we should interpret your previous work for transfer credit purposes.
- For international students currently on an I-20 from another U.S school, you will need to provide a copy of the front and back of an I-20 form, visa page, and other immigration documents (form I-20 or DS-2019, etc). Moreover, you will need to work with the admission office and complete the International Transfer Form.
- Official TOEFL or IELTS score report, or SAT/ACT scores for native English speakers, TOEFL or IELTS score is waived if applicant has completed an English composition course at a U.S. college or university with a grade “C” or above. Conditional admission and bridge program are available for students who do not meet English proficiency requirement. There is no separate application form for ESL program but additional $25 ESL application fee is required.
